Periodontal Screening & Evaluation

To ensure the health of your gums and teeth, we perform several exams that will tell us a lot of information about the health of your teeth, gums and mouth. The first evaluation is of the gums by the dental hygienist.

Periodontal Screening and Evaluation

Periodontal Screening and Evaluations are generally done at every routine check up and cleaning you go in for. At your appointment, the hygienist checks your gums to determine if you have, or are at risk of having, periodontal disease.

The Periodontal Screening and Evaluation will include:

  • Checking the gums (healthy gums are pink; if they are puffy or swollen, certain treatments might be offered)

  • The exam will check for missing or for loose and unhealthy teeth

  • Will check the pocket depth (space between the tooth and the gum; the deeper they are, the greater the indication of gum disease)

  • The overall health of your mouth is checked to determine what course of treatment, cleaning, and follow ups need to be completed

At each appointment we will discuss with you the health of your mouth to ensure proper measures are being taken to protect your health. If you have questions about Periodontal Screening and Evaluations, please call us at 713-523-6848.
